What is the future of AI?

 

The news of the hour is, the AI technology is already started creating wonders. With the use of NLP or Natural Language Processing combined with deep learning, AI Models have started emerging as super humans. But people has started fearing that AI will taking away all the available jobs in the market and outsmart human beings. Clearly, many of us are speculating that AI will take over all human control and man will be driven by machines. Whenever there is uncertainty, there’s fear.

 

In this blog we will closely discuss how technology has been a blessing. I will present two of the biggest discoveries of the 21st century: Mobile phones and Internet. These two technology model will help us guide through the future of Artificial Intelligence Technology. We will also calculate job losses vs job gains. Finally, I will also try to answer the raising concern of the hour: Can AI give security, reliability, fairness and privacy?

 

Threat to Humanity- A common thought!

 

Any technological innovation has been feared by mankind as a threat to its existence. Therefore it is nothing new. Be it nuclear energy, computers, or the internet, every emerging technology or innovation has seen stiff resistance. Technology can inevitably be used in both good and bad ways, the same is the case with Artificial Intelligence. But technology will always find its sweet spot and will benefit mankind like it has been.

 

Technological Invention- A sign of progression

AI is a technological revolution that is changing our lifestyle and livelihood. Let’s dwell on our past to 30-40 years and how things eventually stand with the invention of two major technological revolutions.

 

Case Study 1: Internet

Life before Internet:

• There was no social network.
• No online booking (hotel, railway ticket, air ticket)
• No cloud-based medical reports
• No video calling
• No bill payment
• No net banking
• UPI payment- a distant dream
• No citizen journalism
• No eCommerce

 

Negative impact of Internet on society:

• Social dilemma
• Eye problem
• Security issue
• Rise of anti-social activities
• Rise of eCommerce resulted in the decline of local shops

 

Case Study 2: Mobile

 

Let us discuss how our lives were, before the invention of mobile phones:

• Preplanning every move via hand-written mail or phone calls.
• Applying for a landline and waiting for 7 years to get a new connection.
• Waiting for 7 days to fix a broken line.
• No connectivity during monsoon.

 

The negative impact of mobile on society:

 

• STD/PCO business wiped out.
• Telecom Giant BSNL/MTNL was wiped out.
• Spam calling increased.

 

Now, when we study the above two case studies, we cannot deny that there were job losses. Although STD/PCO businesses were wiped out, there came eCommerce. Undoubtedly, eCommerce industry has not only provided mass employment, it has also made the life of common man a zillion times easier. Certainly, a wise-man will always weigh the good with the bad and arrive to an opinion.

 

AI Technology: Where we stand now?

 

The reason I had to take reference to Mobile Technology and Internet Technology is to gather references to fathom what AI Technology can do. Standing in 2024, we have hardly explored the commercial capacity of the giant AI technology. We have only managed to understand the scope of AI. We have created interactive AI models. Many models were created which has startled the world. For example: ChatGPT 3.0, LlaMA, Dall -E 3.0, etc.

 

 

• Generative AI is creating content, images, texts, voice, and music. Undoubtedly this almost the task of six to seven fully trained professionals and artists.
• Foundation models like Large Language Models (LLM) are not only understanding the human language but also processing data, creating graphs, solving complex mathematical problems, and debugging code.
• Artificial Intelligence Facial Recognition techniques are standing wearing a tuxedo with the best wine to offer on a dinner date. It can marry any industry, any technical breakthrough.
• NLP or Natural Language Processor is making man and machine interact using voice and text commands.Previously it was only buttons. 

These four points are achieved by training AI models for over a decade with huge data. With the help of Deep Learning, we are achieving unsupervised learning and discovering hidden patterns.

 

Ethics is important: using Artificial Intelligence wisely

 

Supervision. Yes, tech giants IBM, Wipro, and ADP are setting up an AI Ethics Board.

 

• IBM has set up an AI ethics board chaired by Chief Privacy and Trust Officers: Francesca Rossi  and Christine Montgomery
• Wipro has set up a Responsible AI task force headed by Ivana Bartoletti, Chief Privacy and AI Governance Officer)
• ADP (Automatic Data Processing) has set up AI and Data Ethics.

 

No to mention, the reason for such a surveillance team is to bring reliability, trust, fairness, explainability, and security. Specifically it will deal with the nuisance factor of generative AI, Dalle-E, or Deep Fakes. If you can create an image or video of anyone doing anything, or create voice samples identical to someone by just a small one-line text, yes, a regulatory board is absolutely important.

 

 

Inference:

After considering the two case studies we can at least rely on technology. We must have faith that any technological revolution has helped human beings evolve. Therefore with more and more acceptance of AI technology we are looking at a world that will emerge to be smarter, dynamic, informed and aware. Along with that, the establishment of AI Ethics Board is also signalling a strong indication that, a huge commercialisation of AI is not far away. Therefore, AI will change our lifestyle and will help us evolve in a better way.

 

Future of AI

• Like any other technological revolution, AI will create massive employment.
• In the Era of AI, marketing will take a whole new dimension.
• As we already know, LLMs can create business documents, write email in seconds, it might take away ordinary jobs from the market.
• Not to mention, social media will become more powerful in the world of AI.
• Human biases and errors are nothing unknow. Therefore, if we can implement AI in administration, it will help in curbing corruption.
• Undoubtedly AI will change every single industry that serves mankind.
• Since AI will be implemented all across the industries, top web developers in India and across the world will see immense growth.

• Artificial Intelligence can outsmart human beings.
• AI Robots are human clones. They will walk around the world like monsters killing all human beings.
